Lord Robert, the leading male protagonist, is both king and god to the whole earth. His supernatural abilities border on the unbelievable. The novel's characters reminded me of the over dramatized acting of the 1960s. Robert made me think of William Shatner in Star Trek, a cocky, unbeatable womanizer. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since I still watch old episodes with fond memories of the sci-fi genius. The females of the story also made me think of Captain Kirk's frequent conquests. They had fluff for brains and always seemed to be dropping their mini skirts. I would recommend this book for anyone that likes fantasy mixed with action and romance.Product details

The premise behind "Divine Deception" is pretty neat a character is mysteriously transported from his bed to the streets of a different world, where the Supreme Family own everything and everyone. People mistake him for the patriarch of the family, Lord Robert, who has been absent for a long time and is thought to be dead. The character plays along, but some family members doubt his story, so he has to tread carefully as he explores his wondrous new powers, which include flying, talking with animals, and creating a golden aura around himself.
The book, however, is so riddled with grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors that it is almost unreadable. For example "Then you are in the right place, Excellency," he assured me heartily, "whatever it is, whoever it is," he allowed a sly, knowing grin, "you have but to say the word, Excellency, and so it shall be." he bowed his head back down, clearly awaiting my command...
In addition, many times when a character speaks, the act of speaking is described with an adjective "Don't tense up," she smiled intimately... "You'd have to stand closer than any but we are permitted to, in order to hear His orders," I challenged softly... When used sparingly, such adjectival tags can be helpful in illustrating characters' moods and actions, but when used in nearly every line, they're just annoying.
According to the author's preface, a person served as an editor, but I found the editing job to be completely incompetent and unprofessional. If I hadn't received a free copy of this book in exchange for my promise of an honest review, I would have stopped reading after the first few pages.
That said, the story isn't bad. It's not the most original plot - a Captain Kirk-type character tries to right the injustices of a colonialized alien world while bedding every woman he sees - but there were enough vivid scenes to make it somewhat interesting. It's heavy on action and light on insights into characters' feelings and motivations, as is to be expected for this genre. Lord Robert is determined to liberate the whole planet. Much of the book consists of him flying around to reach people who are scared and sometimes disrespectful; then he soothes them and fights for their cause. He also has sexual relations with many beautiful women, often at the same time. Most of the sex scenes don't get overly graphic, but some don't leave too much to the imagination.
Since I have not read other "Will Traveller" books, I finished this one unclear as to whether Lord Robert was a traveler who magically appeared in some parallel world that had happened to contain someone who resembled him, or whether he was really the reincarnated Lord Robert, as he sometimes seemed to believe. Both possibilities are interesting, but I would have liked more clarity about which interpretation to make.
If this book is ever issued in a new edition with competent editing, I might consider giving it a higher rating.

It took me a while to get the hang of the setting and figure out the gist of the story. The story raises questions on how even in modern and sophisticated societies, people are still governed by the cruel rulers due to their own superstitions. It is a story of mass movement and uprising against the tyrannical ‘family’. At the end, it was fascinating to read about the ‘Declaration of Intent’ that the new world opts for, where people of the planet shall now be governed by the elected representatives and not by a ruler or ruling race. The book keeps you spellbound and curious all throughout. A must read if you like to get a hold of stories of revolution and uprising against the evil rulers of the world. Good one!
Divine Deception Review
Divine Deception is the 5th book in The Will Traveler Chronicles, a "metaphysical fiction series." It is written in first person and describes the adventures of Lord Robert. As explained in the author's preface, in keeping with the other books in the series, the main character does not know who he is in the beginning. However, it does not take long for him to discover that he is a long lost member of the Supreme Family and he is very distressed with the nature of his family's leadership.
The story takes place in the New World, described in the preface as "a world where much like ours the people are ruled because of their own superstitions, even though they are modern and sophisticated societies." Lord Robert visits various nations in this New World. To me, the descriptions of the vastly different societies were the most interesting part of the book. Lord Robert's attempts to rid the nations of their superstitious beliefs about the Supreme Family in order for them to "learn independence, diplomacy and eventually interdependence" provide the basis for the plot.
The author uses the book to examine much of what is wrong with the actual present day world in which we live. He executes this philosophical examination of our world by creating a fantastical story, complete with a main character who has magical powers and is extremely attractive to a bevy of young beauties who all have sex with him throughout the course of his adventures.
The plot is intriguing and Lord Robert's observations about war, gender, power, and technology kept me interested. On the downside, the characterization is somewhat one-dimensional. The characters serve more as representations of types of people, rather than fully-developed personalities. The major flaw is the copy editing. I found the numerous errors quite distracting. However, if you enjoy a well-imagined plot and can overlook the problems with the copy editing, I think you will find this book interesting and thought-provoking.
